Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2017 Verified Purchase This is a story of what the world might have been like if the Black Death had ravaged the European population so thoroughly that the Turks conquered Europe, Europeans never "discovered" the Americas, and the Aztecs became ascendant over most of the Americas. When I read this as an adolescent, it really captured my imagination, but then, I think it was the first alternate history I had ever read. Coming back to it as an adult, I found it less than inspiring. It has not aged well because of its assumptions that modern technology would not exist without a strong Europe, that the cultures of the Americas would have changed little in 500 years without a European invasion, and because of the author's ignorance of how much Old World diseases would affect the Americas no matter which culture did the "discovering". These factors didn't bother me when I was 13, but now they are a thorough impediment to my suspension of disbelief.

I haven't read it yet, but it looks cool.. I didn't read all of this book. It upset me because the bad guy was manipulating and hurting children. I liked the first one much better... i liked it despite its somewhat lagging nature!
